KITTEN SAFE HOUSE

Information
Here you can find the most important information about castration and/or sterilization.
(More interesting information about cats coming soon!)
The importance of spaying and neutering
Spaying/Neutering is not unnatural and doesn’t change an animal’s personality.
It’s an act of responsibility – especially for animals living not in the wild, but in urban environments.
It helps prevent disease, reduces aggression (and injuries from fights), and allows controlled reproduction.
In doing so, it directly affects the number of cats in need of our help.

Difference between castration and sterilization
In short:
-
Castration is removal of reproductive organs and hormonal activity stops.
-
Sterilization is a procedure where reproductive organs remain, fertility is prevented, but hormones remain active.
In veterinary practice, castration is more commonly performed on both males and females due to its behavioral and health benefits.

Fun fact (some quick statistics)
Out of a total of 46 registered animal shelters in Croatia, Kitten Safe House is the only one dedicated exclusively to cats.
Croatian shelters in total offer space for about 250 cats, and Kitten Safe House alone provides 80 spots – in other words, KSH cares for approximately 32 % of all shelter cats in Croatia.
